Early/Interceptive Treatment – The Right Time for an Orthodontic Visit is No Later Than Age Seven
Even though most people think of pre-teens and teens when they think of braces or other orthodontics, there are good reasons why your child should get an orthodontic evaluation much sooner. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial visit with an orthodontist by no later than age seven.
While your child’s teeth may appear to be straight, there could be a problem that only an orthodontist can detect. The check-up may reveal that your child’s bite is fine, or the orthodontist may recommend monitoring the child’s growth after identifying a developing problem. Then, if indicated, the dentist might begin treatment at the appropriate time for the child. In other cases, the dentist might find a problem that can benefit from early action, such as overbite treatment.
Early treatment may give your orthodontist the chance to:
- Guide jaw growth
- Lower the risk of trauma to protruded front teeth
- Correct harmful oral habits
- Improve appearance
- Guide permanent teeth into a more favorable position
- Improve the way the lips meet
Through an early orthodontics evaluation, you’ll be giving your child the best opportunity for an effective braces treatment and ultimately, a healthy, beautiful smile. Call our McDonough, GA office today at (678) 432-0209 or schedule an appointment online to see an experienced orthodontist soon!
Adult Treatment
Braces aren’t just for kids anymore – a large percentage of our patients are adults, and they agree that it’s never too late to improve their smile. Tooth alignment can be changed at any age if your gums and bone structure are healthy. In fact, we offer a variety of advanced treatments designed for adults, including convenient and affordable 6-month braces.
Without proper treatment, crooked teeth and a bad bite can contribute to gum and bone loss, tooth decay, abnormal wear of the tooth enamel and surfaces, headaches and jaw joint (TMJ/TMD) pain. But there is good news! The new techniques and appliances we use greatly reduce discomfort levels, decrease the frequency of visits and shorten treatment time. Additionally, you’ll have many options to choose from, including metal braces, clear/ceramic braces or invisible aligners that can be worn to improve misaligned teeth.
During the initial examination, an orthodontist will outline the best treatment plan for you. A new smile can begin today – call McDonough Center for Family Dentistry at (678) 432-0209 or contact us online for more information about adult orthodontics!
McDonough Dentistry Offers Traditional Braces and More
At McDonough Center for Family Dentistry, we offer traditional braces, the most common type of braces currently used in orthodontics, as well as a number of other orthodontics services. Most patients who visit an orthodontist because of crooked or spaced teeth still receive traditional treatment, and these braces have come a long way since they first made their debut in the early 1900s. Nowadays, traditional braces are made of a light nickel-titanium material, and they’re smaller, more comfortable and more attractive. You can even change the color of your ties at each follow-up appointment! Who says braces can’t be fun?
McDonough Center for Family Dentistry offers traditional braces, overbite treatment and more! If you’d like to learn more about the services provided by our experienced orthodontist, please call our office at (678) 432-0209 or schedule your orthodontics evaluation online today!
